Possible Side Effects of Dr. Hauschka

Written by: Ellen R. Delisio

As with all new products, even those with natural ingredients, users should first test the product by applying a small amount on a section of skin to make sure they are not allergic to anything. Initiating use of the products in a salon or under the guidance of a professional also can reduce the chance of side effects.

Anyone allergic to gluten, which is a protein in wheat, rye and barley, or who has celiac disease, a digestive disorder, should avoid certain Dr. Hauschka products. Inner Cosmetic, one of Dr. Hauschka's dietary supplements, is made with fermented grain extract, so people with celiac disease or those who are allergic to wheat or gluten should not consume it.

Those with gluten or wheat sensitivity also need to take precautions with several of the skin and hair products. Two skin products, Body Wash Fresh and Floral, contain hydrolyzed wheat protein. Cleansing Milk and Herbal Hair Conditioner are made with fermented grain extract, which can contain gluten, so people who are allergic to wheat should not use them. According to Dr. Hauschka, people with celiac disease are able to use these products as long as they do not get ingest any of them.

Some Dr. Hauschka products are made with grain-derived alcohol and wheat germ oil, but not gluten. They are:

Once in a while, some new users may find that their skin breaks out in blemishes after using Dr. Hauschka products. A short period of time may be needed for the skin to adjust to the ingredients in the new cleansers, toners or moisturizers. According to information from Dr. Hauschka, previous skin treatments that the customer used may have suppressed certain skin conditions, which resurface when the skin returns to its natural state. When the skin achieves its normal balance, the blemishes should disappear.
